Ermenegildo Latteri Museum

Ermenegildo Latteri, whose name was given to the Museum of San Fratello, was a hero of the Italian Risorgimento, whose sacrifice for patriotic ideals contributed to the achievement of National Unity in 1861.

The Ethno-Historical and Anthropological Museum of the Culture of the Nebrodi is the result of a long and meticulous study conducted over the years by Professor Salvatore Mangione, with the aim of enhancing and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Nebrodi region.

The museum's exhibition halls, located within the centuries-old homes of the Diecimila Martiri district, offer visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the traditions and expressions of the local rural culture. Among the exhibits, visitors can admire traditional craftsmanship, such as iron, wood, and stone working, along with female handicrafts, antique furniture, and everyday utensils.

One room of the museum is dedicated to the rites of Holy Week, with particular attention to local folklore linked to the "Giudei", a distinctive tradition of the area. Another room is dedicated to the worship of the Black Saints in Sicily, including figures such as Saint Philip of Agira, Saint Calogero, Saint Cono of Naso, and Saint Benedict the Moor of San Fratello, along with the Madonna of Tindari.
Finally, the museum also houses two reconstructed and furnished homes based on the customs and traditions of the year one thousand, offering visitors an authentic experience of the past and the daily life of that era.
